POSITION SUMMARY
Store Managers are accountable for the store’s performance. They are responsible for leading and managing associates to provide exceptional customer service while managing all activities associated with the front and back end of the store. The store manager contributes to the growth and development of the management team and store associates. Effective store managers are able to establish a positive, energetic work environment while maximizing productivity and profitability by balancing sales and expenses.
This position is required to work a minimum of a 45-hour workweek. Weekends will be part of the regular work schedule.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
SALES AND STORE OPERATIONS
- Ensure a positive, professional and safe work environment for all associates.
- Schedule staff to provide optimal service to meet operational and financial goals.
- Delegate daily workload among associates to meet merchandising and visual presentation standards.
- Hire, train and develop retail staff with goals for growth and success in their positions, provide ongoing performance feedback and recognize accomplishments.
- Accountable to ensure all controllable expenses are within budget range and lead to profitability.
- Accountable for the continuity of all relevant company communication.
- Coordinate the overall supervision of staff to ensure performance goals are met and company procedures are followed accurately.
- Develop and implement in-store marketing including promotions, events and seasonal merchandising based on store needs.
- Monitor payroll to ensure compliance with established budgets and take corrective measures as necessary.
- Ensure the store is clean, in-stocked and recovered at all times.
- Maintain a work balance of 30% office and 70% floor.
- Responsible for B2B culture development within the store and farming outside the store.
- Responsible for troubleshooting, maintenance and upkeep of all store systems, devices and applications use ticket system for issues not resolved in a reasonable time frame.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
- Promote Customer Service as the #1 priority in the store. This must be accomplished daily through observing, monitoring and coaching associate’s performance and interactions on the sales floor.
- Regularly promote and teach offering every customer with extradentary service, while leading by example and coaching.
- Drive customer satisfaction by ensuring that all customers are acknowledged, customer needs are met, and concerns are resolved quickly.
- Ensures customer needs are met, complaints are resolved, and service is quick and efficient by driving staffing levels and staff competencies.
- Possess excellent product knowledge and knowledge of store layout.
- Proficient in all store technology (i.e., ACENET, POS system, Eagle, etc.)
INVENTORY
- Responsible for ordering and maintaining desirable product inventory levels to ensure store profitability in compliance with company objectives.
- Maintain accurate inventory at all stages through on-hand integrity, daily receiving and transfers, store communication, product mix and flow, and adhering to Owens Hardware’s best practices, metrics and deadlines.
- Utilize available inventory reports to reduce shrinkage, maintain appropriate stock levels and maximize inventory accuracy.
- Ensure receiving, checking in, stocking of merchandise for the store is being done completely.
HIRING, COACHING AND TRAINING
- Work on your professional development through leadership training opportunities (self-directed learning, local business events, Ace learning and industry events, etc.).
- Use various communication avenues as the means to communicate the store’s performance, and educate, engage and motivate the team.
- Identify appropriate training for store associates and oversee all training requirements for all associates.
- Recruit prospective associates for possible management positions throughout store.
- Manage and support the hiring, scheduling, reviewing, rewarding and coaching of all store associates including management.
- Actively recruit and promote the advancement of store associates.
- Challenge all associates to think of ways to better merchandise product, control expenses and increase sales.
- Lead by example; be approachable by all associates and customers.
SAFETY, COMPLIANCE AND STORE ENVIRONMENT
- Enforce safety policies and procedures, and serves as role model for safety.
- Oversee and execute sale and promotional merchandising’ in aisle, endcaps, sales tags, etc.
- Exercises discretion and confidentiality in all communications both internal and external.
- Oversee and assist with the daily maintenance, orderliness and cleanliness of the sales floor, stock room and outdoor merchandise areas.
- Ensure signage is current in the entire store.
As with all other jobs other duties may be assigned. Management reserves the right to reassign an individual in this position to another position in the interest of efficient personnel utilization.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or, an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- Possesses vast product knowledge of hardware-related products, along with a willingness to learn.
- Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in a retail setting.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to provide motivation and leadership to associates storewide in a fair and impartial manner
- High degree of analytical skills, and the ability to delegate and be self-directed
- Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills
- Technically skilled in basic retail computer systems including related software
- Develop and maintain client relationships and strategic partnerships
- Dress according to company policy
- Possess a valid in-state driver's license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the company’s insurance carrier’s standards
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to stand for an extended period of time
- Move and handle merchandise and fixtures throughout the store, which entails lifting, standing, climbing stairs and ladders and using proper safety measures
