Job Summary: In Addition to the Nuclear Medicine (Nuc Med) Technologist Duties, the Nuclear Medicine Modality Specialist Is Responsible for the Smooth Operation of the Nuclear Medicine Services Provided at All Applicable Outpatient Sites. This Includes the Mentoring of Technical Personnel, Development of Workflows and Reference Materials, and Protocol Development/Changes. Working in Conjunction with Site Management and Leadership, the Position Is Also Responsible for Staff Scheduling, Coordination of Pto and Low Census, the Availability and Maintenance of Resources and Equipment, and Acr Accreditation Maintenance. the Nuc Med Modality Specialist Will Be the Primary Contact for the Radiologists for Communication Related to Image Quality, Protocol Changes/Enhancements, and Technical Staff Skill Development Aimed to Support High Quality Reads. Ultimately, the Nuc Med Modality Specialist Is Responsible for Providing Expert Knowledge and Support to the Nuc Med Techs, Other Departments, Radiologists, Providers, and Patients When Questions, Concerns, Issues Arise As They Relate to the Nuclear Medicine Modality. Independently Perform Duties Related to the Smooth Operations of the Nuc Med Department, Including:
  • Develop and Mentor Technical Staff, Guiding Them with Expert Knowledge and Support.
  • Responsible for Workflows and Protocol Development and Changes for Nuclear Medicine Throughout the Company.
  • Act As Primary Contact for the Radiologist for Communication Related to Image Quality, Protocol Changes/Enhancements, and Technical Staff Skill Development.
  • Provide Expert Knowledge to Other Departments, Providers, and Patients When Questions Arise As They Relate to the Nuclear Medicine Modality.
  • Responsible for Staff Scheduling and Coordination of Pto and Low Census with the Support of Site Management and Leadership.
B. Independently Perform Duties Related to Preparation and Administration of Radiopharmaceuticals, Including:
  • Check-in Shipments of Radioactive Materials According to Dept. of Health Mandated Procedures
  • Operation and Quality Control of a Dose Calibrator
  • Measurement of Radiopharmaceuticals for Administration Within Recommended Dose Guidelines
  • Performance of Venipuncture in Order to Withdraw Blood or to Inject Radiopharmaceuticals
  • Exercise Good Judgment in the Use of Techniques and Devices to Minimize Radiation Exposure to Self and Others
  • Maintain Records of Receipt, Use, and Disposal of Radioactive Materials.
  • Perform Radiation Safety Related Tasks, Such As Exposure and Contamination Monitoring, As Directed by the Radiation Safety Officer.
C. Work to Perform the Diagnostic Procedures Which Have Been Established by the Nuclear Medicine Physician, Including:
  • Operation and Quality Control of the Dose Calibrator, Geiger Counters, the Pet Scanner, and the Image Processing Computers
  • Communicating with Patients in an Understandable and Professional Manner Such That Patients Will Comprehend Their Role in Successfully Performing the Examination, and Will Be Relieved of Anxiety Concerning Their Safety and Security During the Exam.
  • Communicating Effectively with Patients, Physicians, and Other Health Professionals to Achieve Accurate Transmission of Procedure Orders, Clinical Histories, and Exam Results.
D. Other Jobs Functions:
  • Operation of the Company’s Radiology Information System with Accurate and Timely Addition of Pertinent Chart Notes.
  • Operation of the Company’s Picture Archiving and Communication System
  • Understand the Concept of Protected Health Information (Phi) and Follow Hipaa Guidelines to Insure Confidentiality for Our Patients.
  • Keeps Work Area and Patient Exam Areas Neat and Stocked with Appropriate Supplies
  • Participates in Orientation and In-service Training for Personnel.
  • Checks Work Email Daily.

Qualifications: Education/Work Experience
  • Graduation from a Training Program Accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs in Nuclear Medicine Technology (Jrcnmt)
  • Completion of Hiv/Aids Course As Required for State Radiologic Technologist Certification
  • Experience with the Full Range of Nuclear Diagnostic Procedures, Including Data Acquisition, Processing, and Display
  • Washington State Department of Health Certification (Cnmt)
  • Professional Certification in Nuclear Medicine Technology (Nmtcb or Arrt)
  • Must Maintain Compliance with All Cme, Education, Certification Requirements
  • A Valid Driver’s License and Auto Insurance in Good Standing Is Mandatory
  • Current Bls Certification Required
  • Supervisory Experience Preferred
