General Dentist

32-36 hours/week, full-time benefits-eligible, 3-4 days per week

FLSA Exempt, Salary $144,000 - $167,250 DOE/ DOQ 

Must possess a Montana license in good standing and be able to pass a criminal background check.

Position Summary:

Under the general direction and supervision of the Dental Director, this position provides comprehensive, coordinated preventive dental services to diverse patient populations across the lifespan. The Dentist will be directly involved in the assessment, management, and appropriate intervention of those patients requiring dental services. Initiating diagnosis and treatment of oral diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth and gums, and related oral structures. May treat diseases of nerve, pulp, and other dental tissues affecting the vitality of teeth. To further the focus of Southwest Montana Community Health Center’s mission as a patient-centered medical home, the dentist will support the patient’s optimal functioning and improve collaborative coordination of care by engaging the resources and expertise of other staff and community resources.

Position Requirements:
Education, Licensure:

  • Board certification in Dentistry, current License in Montana in good standing, and current certification in BLS.

Experience:

  • Experience with medically underserved populations and public health.
  • Experience with Electronic Dental Records required.
  • Two years post-graduate experience highly preferred - prior residency experience considered

Essential Functions, Roles, and Responsibilities:

  • Provides basic and emergency direct patient care to dental patients of SWMTCHC.
  • Assure quality dental services, including, but not limited to, dental screenings, diagnosis, and basic restorative dentistry.
  • Remains current with standards of practice.
  • Ensures that accurate dental records of patient visits are maintained.
  • Participates in annual dental care plan goals and objectives.
  • Participates in the review and determination of the dental clinic's scope of service.
  • Supervises, in conjunction with the Dental Director, dental assistants, dental scheduler, and dental hygienists.
  • Coordinates services with clinic and community providers to ensure delivery of comprehensive dental care services.
  • Coordinates with SMTMCHCs and the community’s providers to ensure delivery of integrated multidisciplinary comprehensive primary care services.
  • Participates in SWMTCHC’s continuous quality improvement and performance review programs.
  • Assists with the SWMTCHC’s dental procedures and systems to assure compliance with federal laws, regulations, and standards of practice, including dental policies and procedures, OSHA, CLIA, patient care, employee health, coding, and billing.
  • Participates in the development of policy and procedure manuals used in the dental clinic.
  • Participates in the recruitment of volunteers and staff for a dental clinic.
  • Participates in communication with volunteer dentists in the SWMTCHC dental program.
  • Serves as one of the key links with the Butte and Southwestern Montana dental community.
  • Complies with SWMTCHC’s policies and procedures.
  • Participates in SWMTCHC staff meetings and clinic meetings as directed.
  • Uses a computer and related software.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

  • Knowledge of dental practices and procedures.

  • Knowledge of the principles of supervision and training.
  • Basic computer skills to include proficiency with Electronic Dental Records.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to work as a successful integrated multi-disciplinary primary health care team.

Supervision: This position has indirect supervisory responsibilities over other dental staff

Immediate Supervisor: Dental Director/Dentist ; in their absence, Executive Director

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

General office/clinic conditions are pleasant; good, clean working conditions where accidents and hazards are negligible; requires short periods of moderate lifting, pushing, or pulling objects up to twenty pounds. Clear diction and acute hearing are necessary for effective communication with the staff and public. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Position is based in Dillon; however, position responsibilities may require travel to Butte on occasion. Use of a personal vehicle is required for travel; therefore, a valid driver’s license, proof of auto insurance, and registration are required.

OSHA Classification I: Normal work routine involves potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood and/or body fluids; use of appropriate protective measures is required.
