Summary: The Beautician provides hair care and grooming services to residents in accordance with professional standards and resident preferences. This independent contractor oversees the day-to-day operations of the beauty shop, maintains a clean and safe environment, manages supply needs, and ensures residents have access to timely, high-quality services. The Beautician delivers services in alignment with facility policies, infection control standards, and state licensing requirements.
Qualification Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited cosmetology/beauty school.
- Current, active North Carolina cosmetology license.
- Must meet facility standards for background checks, insurance requirements, and contractor eligibility.
Preferred Qualifications
• Two or more years of experience as a practicing cosmetologist; experience working with older adults preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of hairstyling techniques, grooming standards, and service preferences common among older adults.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills with sensitivity to resident needs and limitations.
- Ability to manage scheduling, maintain accurate records, and handle resident payments.
- Skill in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe working environment.
- Ability to work independently, organize workflow, and adjust scheduling as needed.
- Ability to safely assist residents with limited mobility, including transfers into salon chairs (within reasonable limits).

Essential Functions
- Provide hair care and grooming services including shampooing, cutting, styling, setting, coloring, and other services within professional licensure.
- Manage daily beauty shop operations, including appointment scheduling, resident communication, and service workflow.
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and well-organized beauty shop, ensuring adherence to infection control standards.
- Maintain supply inventory, purchase needed items, and ensure all equipment is safely operated and properly maintained.
- Communicate with residents, families, nursing staff, and facility leadership regarding appointments, service needs, and resident preferences.
- Maintain accurate records of resident services, payments, and documentation required by the facility.
- Inform new residents of available services, pricing, and scheduling procedures.
- Adapt services to meet individual resident needs, including those with mobility limitations or cognitive impairments.
- Report any equipment issues, safety concerns, or resident changes of condition to appropriate facility personnel..
- Perform other duties consistent with the scope of a licensed beautician as requested by the Administrator
- Uphold resident rights, confidentiality, and facility standards of care.
- Comply with all applicable laws and professional standards, including HIPAA and facility safety and infection-control requirements, and follow all Community rules necessary to safely provide contracted services and access resident care areas.
Physical Demands
- Always required to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequently required to bend, stoop, twist, and reach at/below/above shoulder height.
- Occasionally required to lift items up to 10 pounds.
- Frequently uses fine motor skills for grooming tools and hair care techniques.
- Must have adequate vision, color discrimination, hearing, and tactile sensation for safe cosmetology tasks.

Work Environment
- Always works indoors in a climate-controlled salon environment.
- Frequently exposed to hair products, chemicals, aerosols, and fragrances.
- Occasionally exposed to blood/body fluids when serving residents with compromised skin or scalp conditions.
- Occasionally exposed to residents with cognitive impairment, including risk of unpredictable behaviors such as grabbing or swatting.
- Frequently exposed to moderate noise from dryers, clippers, and equipment.

As an independent contractor, I understand that I am not an employee of the Community, am responsible for my own licensing, insurance, taxes, and business operations, and am not entitled to employee benefits or accommodations.
